Games are very fun but they also teach your puppy special skills and makes them active.
Here are few games that you can make your puppy play:
Firstly ask your puppy to come, sit and then throw a toy or a ball. Encourage him to go and get it. You can begin praising him and make him energetic when he is far away from you. Try calling his name, shout or dance so that he will want to come back to you. When he brings it back to you, tell him to drop it, praise him when he does that or give him some treat. This game will teach your puppy to come when called and to retrieve the newspaper or your slippers.
- Find the toy
This game teaches your puppy to rely on his sense of smell and to use his brain. Firstly come up with a name for each toy your dog has and then pick up his favourite toy and say the name of the toy like “fluffy toy” and hand him over with the toy if he looks at you when you say it.Choose a command like “search” or “find” and use only for this game and for when you want him to find something later. Show your puppy the toy and hide it partially under a towel or a piece of cloth. Then say the words “find your fluffy toy” and if he is able to find it then praise him or give him a treat. If he finds difficulty in finding it, repeat the command. Keep hiding the toy again and again until he is able to recover it completely from places he can’t see it and praise him every time. Finally you will be able to tell him to find anything you’ve named and he will be a pro in tracking things.
- Agility games
Games that makes your puppy move and think, helps in burning of calories and also increase your puppy’s coordination and confidence. Puppies love the challenge of jumping, negotiating, obstacles and also they love when you praise them for things they do well. For this game, all you need to do is to create an obstacle course in your living room with lots of blankets and chairs. Use treats to lure your puppy and follow alongside as he follows the obstacle course, reward him with a treat when he crosses all the obstacles and cheer him up when he does a great job. You can also create a course outside if you have a yard or at the park with cones, hula-hoops and other object and invite other puppies to join as well.
- Water games
Playing with water can be a lot of fun for dogs.Your dog can play some water games at your own backyard. Get a plastic pool and fill it with water. Many dogs absolutely love to splash around and having a nice little pool of their own to keep themselves cool. Toss in some toys for him so that he can enjoy even more playing in the water.
